The Mayor’s Day Out celebrates 40 years this summer!
Join the Mayor of Cambridge, on a day out to Great Yarmouth, famed for its beautiful seafront, traditional shops and cafes and Golden Mile of sandy beach. A day out via coach for Cambridge City residents aged 55 and over.
Enjoy a refreshing day out at the seaside and the attractions of this popular holiday destination – all for just £10 which includes return coach travel, with several convenient pick-up and drop-off points throughout the city and some live music in the beautiful Anchor Gardens on the seafront.

Useful Information
You will be contacted by a member of our team before the event to confirm pick up points and times.
Please arrive at your pickup point in plenty of time before the bus is due to leave as the bus will not be able to wait for latecomers.
The coach is unable to stop for toilet breaks on the way to and from Great Yarmouth.
When you arrive in Great Yarmouth, you are free to explore the town.
There will be a performance on Anchor Gardens for you to enjoy from around 2pm.
From 4pm, coaches will begin leaving and will arrive back to Cambridge around 6pm/6:30pm.
What is Mayor’s Day Out?
-Mayor’s Day Out falls under Cambridge City Councils, City Events Programme and is intended specifically for the city’s senior citizens and residents.
-Since its inception in 1986, the Mayor’s Day Out has brought untold pleasure to many thousands of Cambridge people. It is a highlight in the Cambridge social calendar and is greatly looked forward to by our local senior citizens from year to year. This August we hope to take over 400 of Cambridge’s senior citizens to the seaside at Great Yarmouth, where they will be treated to a show from a band.
-This year marks the 40th anniversary of the event!
What are the times? What’s involved?
-The coach pickups are between 8:30am-9:15am depending on location.
-We arrive in Great Yarmouth around 11am.
-Attendees are free to wander, have lunch or visit the shops.
-From 2pm-4pm there is a free concert at Anchor Gardens on the seafront.
-From 4pm, coaches will begin leaving and will arrive back to Cambridge around 6pm/6:30pm.

Who attends the trip?
Over 350 senior citizens from Cambridge.
The Mayor of Cambridge, who will sit for a cream tea with the Mayor of Great Yarmouth.
Councillors, Council Staff and Corporate Sponsors provide volunteers.
St Johns Ambulance provide medical staff to attend, with 2 on each coach.

How do I book a ticket for the trip?
Tickets are on general sale from Friday 23rd May 2025 to Friday 4th July 2025.
Online: www.camcityevents.co.uk.
In person: from the Cambridge Live Ticket Office in Wheeler Street beside the Corn Exchange; weekdays (excluding BH) Monday - Friday 12:00 – 16:00.
By phone: Tel 01223 357851. Weekdays (excluding BH) Monday - Friday 10:00 – 17:00.
You can also purchase tickets in person from local community centres by cash.
How much does the trip cost?
£10
This covers your coach journey to and from Great Yarmouth and the afternoon performance.
What should I bring with me?
Anything you might need for a day out at the beach! We suggest sunscreen, comfortable shoes and a water bottle.
You can bring a packed lunch or buy something along the coast; Great Yarmouth’s famous fish and chips is a popular option!
What if I need assistance with mobility?
If you have any accessibility needs, please make sure to declare it when purchasing your ticket.
Our coaches do not have lifts unless any attendees declare that they won’t be able to walk up the steps and sit in a seat.
We can store walking assistance devices and equipment under the bus for the journey.
Is there a parking area for those who drive to the coach pickup point?
We encourage attendees to walk or bike to their pickup points and do not provide parking as part of the event.
On the Day of the Trip:
What time should I arrive at the pickup point?
In the week leading up to the trip you will receive a call or email which outlines the timings for your arrival.
We encourage attendees to arrive 10-15 minutes before their assigned pick-up time.
Can I join the trip from a different location than my assigned pickup point?
You must board the coach at your allocated time and on your allocated bus otherwise you may take someone else's space on the coach.
Will there be any breaks during the journey?
We only stop in emergencies; the journey is only under 2 hours so there are no need for extra stops.
Is there a toilet on the coach?
We cannot guarantee that there will be a toilet on the coach.
What happens if I miss my coach?
We will always try to contact you if you are late and will wait for all to board the bus before leaving. On the rare occasion that the bus leaves without someone, we will try our best to arrange for another coach to pick you up.
Health and Safety
What happens if I feel unwell or need medical attention?
Our event management team are first aid trained, and St. John’s ambulance volunteers attend the trip alongside our main staff. There will be 2 St John’s ambulance volunteers on each coach.
What should I do if I get lost or separated from the group?
On arrival, you will be given a map and emergency contact information. This will have details on where our event will be taking place and where the coaches will pick you up at the end of the day.
You may need to call one of our emergency contacts, we will have staff members ready and available to help!
Is the event wheelchair accessible?
Yes! Please make sure to declare your access information when booking your ticket.
What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?
We will proceed with the trip even if the weather forecast isn’t ideal, we will help to provide information on fun activities to do in Great Yarmouth in rainy weather.
